Experience Microscopic Physics with Micrometer Simulator

Micrometer Simulator offers an interactive platform for users to explore and understand micrometer-scale physical phenomena through simulation, enhancing educational engagement.
About:
An open-source physics simulation based on codes written by Fu-Kwun Hwang and Loo Kang WEE. For more resources, visit http://iwant2study.org/ospsg/index.php/interactive-resources/physics/01-measurements.
Introduction:
Micrometers utilize a screw's principle to translate minuscule distances too small for direct measurement into large screw rotations that can be read from a scale. The precision of a micrometer originates from the accuracy of the thread form it embodies. The app replicates the physical parts of a real micrometer:
- Frame (Orange): The C-shaped body ensures the proper alignment of the anvil and barrel, minimizing measurement distortion.
- Anvil (Gray): The surface against which the sample is placed and the spindle moves towards.
- Sleeve/Barrel/Stock (Yellow): The stationary round part equipped with a linear scale and sometimes vernier markings.
- Lock Nut/Lock-Ring/Thimble Lock (Blue): The part that secures the spindle in place when necessary.
- Screw: The core mechanism inside the barrel.
- Spindle (Dark Green): The part that moves towards the anvil.
- Thimble (Green): The component with graduated markings adjusted by the user's thumb.
- Ratchet (Teal): A device limiting pressure application by slipping at a calibrated torque, not visible in the simulation.
The simulation offers control over y-motion and x-size of the object, zero error adjustments, guidelines, arrows indicating areas of interest, and answers. Users can also simulate the lock function present in real micrometers that retains measurement positions unchangeable. Additionally, there is a slider to control spindle position and drag functions on the view to move the spindle.
Interesting Fact:
This simulation includes object detection tailored for O-level Physics education and incorporates zero error adjustments.
